Dr. Matthew Ray

Dr. Matthew Ray was raised in Potomac, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Both of his parents were journalists, but this line of work never quite suited him. From an early age, Matt’s love for animals was apparent, probably influenced by his frequent trips to the Smithsonian Zoo. He grew up with a feisty cat named Lucky and a sweet pup named Skittles and eventually moved to Burlington, Vermont, where he graduated from the University of Vermont with a BS in Zoology.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Matt decided he was in need of some warmer weather, so he made his way to Austin, where he worked as a veterinary technician. After a few years, he returned to the east coast to earn his veterinary degree from the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. During his clinical rotations, Matt was lucky enough to spend a few weeks at Paz and couldn’t resist the opportunity to become a full-time member of the team.

His professional interests include preventative and internal medicine, and he has a special soft spot for kitty cats. Dr. Ray strives to provide high-quality medicine and to help educate owners about their pet’s well-being. He currently lives with his tortoiseshell cat, Josie, and his Brittany spaniel Sully. In his free time he enjoys hiking with Sully, playing guitar, and expanding his culinary horizons with Austin’s great food scene.
